How To Root Android With Magisk -Boot Image Patching Method

Currently, Magisk root is considered as one and only genuine rooting method and It is rather popular for its ability to bypass the Google security checks. Generally, Magisk developers advise its users to flash the Magisk Zip file in TWRP recovery to obtain root access. But, if your device does not support custom recovery or you do not want to interrupt the OTA updates flashing a custom recovery, you can use Magisk Boot Image Patching Method and get root access along with other Magisk features. Let's get to know how to root Android using Magisk boot image patching method.

What You Need

In simple, here we are going to apply the Magisk framework on a  copy of the stock boot/recovery image and flash it on the device to gain root access. So, you need to download the stock boot/recovery image that compatible with the device model. You can get the stock boot/recovery image by extracting the OEM factory image or OTA update zips. In case, extracting is not available, download the relevant images from a reliable source. In addition to software requirements, you need to get workable PC and a compatible USB cable for flashing purposes

How To Root Android

  • First, copy the  boot/recovery image to your Android smartphone
  • Install the latest version of Magisk Manager
  • Launch Magisk Manager 
  • Press Install > Install > Select and Patch a File > Select your stock boot/recovery image file 
  • Go to  Advanced Sttings > Check “Recovery Mode” if you are going to patch recovery image
  • Then, the Magisk Manager will patch th image applying Magisk and you can find it in [Internal Storage]/Download/magisk_patched.img
  • Simply, copy the patched image to your PC (Use adb pull /sdcard/Download/magisk_patched.img for ADB)
  • Now, flash the image using fastboot flash boot /path/to/magisk_patched.img command if you patched the boot image

Note: Use fastboot flash recovery /path/to/magisk_patched.img if you pathced the recovery image.

Final Word

Technically, the recovery method is the most simple and recommended method to install Magisk. Boot image patching method is a bit complicated when compared to the recovery method, especially for a newbie. So, read more and learn more before stepping on.
