Acer Nitro 5 is one of the best budget-friendly gaming laptops available. The performance is outstanding, with the 4GB of dedicated graphics delivered by Radeon RX 560X and Vega 8 Graphics. But there is a problem with Acer Nitro wifi not working and frequently disconnecting, which hampers the gaming experience if you are streaming a video online.
I purchased this laptop a month ago, and everything worked fine until an update from Windows popped up, and it got installed. Things took a turn from there, and it messed up with the services on board. The first problem with the Acer Nitro 5 was that I did not note the wing with the Bluetooth speakers connected. After searching on the internet, I was able to fix the issue by changing some settings on the Wi-Fi.
A few days later, while gaming on my Acer Nitro 5 in multiplayer mode, I started getting disconnected frequently from the internet. The wifi connection showed “Cannot connect to this network.” However, the issue was fixed by restarting the router and the laptop, but this was a temporary fix, and I thought the next Windows update might fix it.

How To Fix Acer Nitro wifi Not Working And Frequently Disconnecting
There are many issues with the wifi not working on Acer Nitro 5, which is very annoying, but if you have patience and apply the following tweaks and methods, you can fix the issue very quickly.
Method 1: Update Driver
The most common issue we face with network problems and other similar matters is faulty or outdated hardware drivers.
- Go to Device Manager (Right-click on the Windows logo and select Computer Management > Device Manager).
- Expand Network Adapters and then search for Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter.
- Right-click on it, navigate to details > Hardware IDs, and look for PCIVEN_168C&DEV_003E&SUBSYS_080711AD&REV_32 (If this is the version, proceed).
- Go back and uninstall the device (Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter)
- Download the driver for Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter and extract it.
- Go to Device Manager and install the driver by selecting the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter and then click “Update Driver” > “Browse my computer for driver software” > “Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.”
- Restart the laptop and connect to the wifi network.
Method 2: Change the wifi Channel
If the above method doesn’t work for you, there might be interference in the frequency of other electronic devices around the laptop. It can be Bluetooth speakers or any other machine using the same frequency. You can try changing the Wi-Fi channel, which helped me once from getting disconnected from the Wi-Fi. To do this, log in to your WiFi network settings menu.
- Connect to your wifi.
- Open any browser, type 192.168.0.1, and hit enter. This will open the wifi settings menu. Remember that the login IP varies on different company routers. In my case, on iBall, it is 192.168.1.1, and on TP-Link and D-Link, it is 192.168.0.1. Check at the back of the router for the login IP.
- Login to your wifi settings menu. (By default, the ID and password are admin).
- Navigate to Wireless settings, select the Channel to any other number, and save it.
- Restart your router and connect.
Method 3: Change Power Management
If your Acer Nitro wifi is still not working, you can apply this slight change in your Windows setup. This is a tiny issue often ignored, which seems to be one of the main reasons they get disconnected on Acer Nitro 5.
- Go to Device Manager
- Navigate to Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter
- Right-click and open Properties
- Click the Power Management Tab
- Untick “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
- Restart and enjoy
Method 4: Change Network Mode
Changing the network mode under wifi settings solved the internet connectivity issue on the Acer Nitro 5. Applying all the methods fixed the problem, but somehow or the other, they were temporary.
- Connect to your wifi.
- Open the wifi settings menu (Follow Method 2 > Instruction number 2)
- Navigate to Wireless settings and select the Network Mode
- Now, from the drop-down menu, select “Mixed 802.11 b/g/n.”
- Save and restart your router.
Now match the network adapter wireless mode:
- Go to Control Panel and open Network and Internet
- Then click “View network status and task.”
- Select the connect wifi network and then click on properties
- Click Configure > Advance > Wireless Mode
- Select 05 – 11 b/g/n from the drop-down menu and save it
- Restart your laptop
Conclusion
If all the above methods didn’t work, then you can do the following things:
- Try to connect to a different wifi
- If this doesn’t work, then you need to get a new wifi router
- If other devices connect to the same wifi but not the Laptop, contact Acer customer care and get an appointment.
